Sharing with our community the dough of Shabbos - Challah!
This past 15th of Adar (on Shushan Purim) ט״ו בַּאֲדָר תשע״ז, my brother Igor (Yisroel) Shakhnovich, passed away. He was known for his giving, kindness, and thoughtfulness, which is exemplified by our Share Your Dough project. We hope the mitzvoth incurred will be to his merit, and give him an illiut nishmah (a rising of his soul).

Thank G-d we have Shabbos. Otherwise, I don’t know if our family would ever see each other. That was the sentiment sometime after Rosh Hashanah 5774/2013 when we started to look for a family project.
We had a mission.
We had objectives:
We decided on sharing something that we had to do each week. We had never baked Challah before so it was definitely a challenge, but it felt doable, spiritual, collaborative.
Sharing challah resonated as the
project of choice. It fulfilled all the criteria.
Everyone can participate (someone buys ingredients, someone bakes, and someone delivers).
The objective is to share our dough each week with people who just need its warm feeling.
But....after doing this now for four years, we realized that we can use more help and get others involved! We have greatly enjoyed doing this beautiful chesed and we'd like to share its rewards with more people.

"This was such a nice surprise, especially after a very difficult week. The challah was delicious and we really appreciated this gesture." - From one of our recipients
Our objective has been to give up to 50% of what we make to people in the community. The challah preparation takes place in our strictly kosher kitchen.
Typically the men/boys in our family deliver the challah shortly before the start of Shabbat. When delivering the boys explain the background of our project and offer the challahs. We typically do not call in advance and the majority of the time we don't even know the people we are delivering to. It's a Shabbat surprise!
We deliver to homes, hospitals, or other close-by locations. If we miss the person the first time, we will keep coming back.
We typically get referrals for recipients (those who we give to) from shuls, rebbeim, and/or community members. The referrals can be known or anonymous!
All challahs are packaged in cellophane bags, sealed with the Share Your Dough logo stickers and ribbon. We do not leave packages at the door and will always hand them to a live person.
YOU CAN BAKE, REFER RECIPIENTS, AND/OR DISTRIBUTE THE CHALLAHS!!! ALL ARE WELCOME!
We don't typically collect donations for this project from others but if you're interested in getting involved to cover certain costs, your generous gift will help. Please contact us and we will send you the link. Thank you!
